Qualifications
Eligibility for Award of Scholarship
Eligibility for scholarship awards is on the following basis:
- Sponsor guide must be a current Guide member of Friends of Cal-Ore Fish, Inc. during year application is made.
- Recipient must be a dependent, or grandchild of a Guide who has participated in a minimum of 6 FCOF derbies or participated in 3 years of FCOF derbies.
- Recipient must be a High School graduate or have received a GED certificate.
- At the time of award the recipient must be enrolled in a college, university or Trade/business School that is in compliance with all applicable IRS codes.
- Recipient must be enrolled in at least twelve (12) academic units per semester during the year of the scholarship award or an equivalent number of academic units per quarter if on a quarterly based system. Responsibility to provide proof of enrollment shall rest with recipient.
- Renewal applicants shall complete 10 hours of volunteer service with a fisheries related organization or hatchery. Service can be completed after notification of scholarship but prior to distribution of funds.
Guidelines for Scholarship Award Amounts
Each year the Board shall determine the total amount available for scholarship awards. The Board's determination of the amount and number of each individual award shall take into account the total scholarship funds available.
The number and dollar amount of scholarship awards are to be determined on the following basis:
Scholarship awards shall be less than is required to fully support a student. The general plan will be to augment the funds available to the recipient from other sources and to pursue an educational goal, which would otherwise be unavailable or very difficult.
The Board shall set the number and amount of awards each year based upon the funds available for scholarships in meaningful amounts while providing the greatest benefit to the largest number of worthy candidates.
Distribution of scholarship funds shall be available after receiving proof of enrollment from recipient.
