                 Long time fishing advocate, and Rowdy Creek Fish Hatchery supporter, Jim Griggs has decided that the Griggs Salmon Derby needs to return with the Griggs Family being in prominent attendance. Ken Griggs will be coordinating the derby with FCOF staff and inviting many of the Griggs family friends to come share in the fund-raising efforts at this critical funding time.  Jim is the founding father of Friends of the North Coast Fish, Inc. as well as a life-time honorary board member for FCOF.

The derby format will return to the traditional format, familiar to many, with the check-in on Thursday, November 19th. Fundraising events will commence that evening with a raffle and great food. An auction event that in the past has brought interesting items as well as long-distance bidding should provide plenty of entertainment. Fishing will be on the Chetco and Smith Rivers with teams of 4 anglers and 2 guides comprising a team. Individual anglers can be paired up with others seeking partners so don’t let the lack of a team stop you from coming to the event in November. Past participants of the Griggs Salmon Derby have included golfing greats Davis Love, III, Bob Tway, Mike Hulbert and Joey Sindelar.

Prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams as well as the largest salmon caught in the derby. Formal invitations will be sent this spring with more information in upcoming newsletters as well. Be sure to check the website for up-to-the minute entry forms, rules and schedule of events. This will be a rousing event full of fun, fish, stories and fundraising.
